Dr. Schoen graduated from N.Y.U. College of Dentistry in 1971.  He went on to serve in the US Army dental corps with the rank of captain.  While there he spent one year in a general practice residency with specialty rotations, and then headed an expanded functions team for six months.  After leaving the military, he accepted a position with the University of Massachusetts where he was clinical director for the dental division of the student health service.

In 1979, Dr. Schoen and his family moved to Northwest Indiana, where he raised his two, now grown daughters, and has been in private practice since.  He has amassed more than 2000 hours of continuing dental education over the years.  His areas of interest and expertise include endodontics ( root canal therapy), implant restoration and conservative cosmetic procedures. He enjoys working with children, seniors and everyone in between!

Dr. Schoen has completed advanced certification in Invisalign, the fixed metal braces alternative for straightening teeth.  He is also experienced in the treatment of sleep apnea with dental repositioning appliances, an alternative for some people, the CPAP regimen.  He was one of the first dentists in Northwest Indiana to become trained in and utilize the air abrasion as an alternative to "the drill" for many dental restorations and continues to do so.  He has advanced training in conservative cosmetic procedures by some of the foremost cosmetic dentists in the country.  He has done thousands of direct bonded restorations and enjoys rebuilding smiles with this technique.

As our senior dentist, he considers himself the patriarch of our practice family and feels fortunate to be able to work with such a fine group of professionals and genuinely nice people.  Additionally, he cherishes the many long-term relationships he has built with his patients over the years, which comprise the other part of his practice family.  He thanks you all for your loyalty and trust over the years and for years to come!
